Joker - Kapsize EP

Bristol’s Earwax draws from hometown blood for round 3 on wax, this time in the shape of up-and-coming producer Joker who has been making some serious waves the last year or so. Already, at the age of 18, he’s well known in Bristol for his sound – from his Kold Hearted days and through DJ sets at the premiere Dubstep night, Dubloaded. His productions are tightly engineered and smack of originality and quality. This ‘Kapsize EP’, dedicated to his recently departed cousin, DJ Kapsize, presents 4 top draw rhythms that demonstrate the various angles of Joker’s production skills. ‘Stuck in the System’ is an uplifting tune that will pull you out of any bad mood with its note perfect orchestral composition – think Low Deep on a particularly good day. ‘Grimey Princess’ sees a more electro sound come to life – dubsteppin crossover stuff with a characteristic Joker rhythm that just falls over itself – entirely original. Flip then for ‘The Bop’, with its power charged anthemic sound – a rare example of using guitar licks in dubstep/grime that actually works! Finally the EP closes with ‘J.V. Anderson’ which show’s off Joker’s ability to work impossible rhythms into fluid grooves, taking an almost demented sound through your head and leaving you feeling like you’ve just experienced something completely new.
