AND THEN follows in the footsteps of previous Joe concoctions in paying slavish attention to every facet of bedroom fantasy, from the title track's erotically breathy vocal hooks to the inventively sexy laundry list of possibilities on "Bedroom." Aided by sensual electric piano, persuasively plangent guitar, and achingly slow tempos, Joe has the insinuatingly pleading vocal chops to carry the album's suavely passionate conceits. The sophisticated production, courtesy of such talents as R. Kelly, himself a veteran of somewhat more controversial boudoir shenanigans, supplies the satin-smooth background.
