Dub-step has really gained a phenomenal foothold during the last year. Rising out of UK Garage and Drum & Bass's evolutionary pace and innovative drive has been nothing but awe-inspiring. The ideology has spread like wildfire, and whereas before it was principally a close network of artists inspired by those scenes, now there is emerging a new second wave, from the depths of electronica, electro, glitch, even breakcore. It's coming from far and wide and its at this critical point Starksound, the label, enters into the limelight as a new spin off project from Rag & Bone records. Launching the first sonic assault is a stunning 2 tracker from Crooked One. Inspired by the likes of Vex'd, Technical Itch, and Youngsta, this is a new moniker for an artist whose previously revered outings have surfaced on Combat, Rag & Bone, Dirty Needles and Thorn Industries. The lead track Annihilation is pure menacing dirtage. Tumultuous half step riddims deliver a haunting message with jaw dropping bass. Crooked Acid on the reverse, takes the same gritty template, interspersed with shivers of cold reverb and deep and dark dangerous intent.
