Ireland has always held an interesting place in the DnB realm. Calibre seems to get most of the praise, which is well deserved, but over the last few years, Beta 2 has been staking his claim as one producer not to be taken lightly. With releases on labels like Metalheadz, Bassbin, Nu Directions, Reinforced, as well as his acclaimed tunes with partner Zero Tolerance, he has built a solid repertoire for tunes that straddle the line between liquid and dub, deep and runnin’. This 12”, his debut on Horizons Music, is no exception. “Fool In Your Eyes” pits Beta 2 with Lariman, for a dynamic excursion into some liquid terrain. Silky smooth vocals ride over the synth-heavy melodies. That hardness of the kick and the snare is set contrast to a real invigorating bassline, one designed to get waists wound and feet skankin’. Beta 2 rides solo for “From A Dream”, which is a bit darker and rougher that the A side. Very ‘Headz-sounding, this one combines a nicely edited break and some twisted synth work to create a beautifully dark creature. It’s hard to deny a track that digs so deep but still knows how to get you grooving.
